TO SEE THE COMPLETE JOB POSTING AND APPLY ONLINE, VISIT The primary responsibility of the Texas School for the Deaf social worker is to investigates abuse, neglect, and improper care allegations and prepare a report of the findings (Family Code, Subchapter E, Sec.261.401 (d). Additional responsibilities include working with families, school administrators, and community agencies in obtaining assistance for students and their families and/or to assist students with transition planning and advocacy. The Social Worker works under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor s degree in Social Work (BSW) or in a related social service field from an accredited college or university Licensed Baccalaureate Social Worker (LBSW) in the State of Texas Two years-experience as a social worker or case management services Sign Language: The ultimate required proficiency level for the position using the levels designated in the Signed Communication Proficiency Interview (SCPI) is ADVANCED. If hired with a sign language proficiency level below this level, you are required to participate in signed communication learning opportunities on a regular basis until you have achieved the sign language proficiency level assigned to your position. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited college or university Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the State of Texas Experience in supervision of staff Experience investigating abuse, neglect and exploitation and composing written reports Sign communications skills rating exceeds the required level Five years-experience as a social worker or case manager Experience working with deaf individuals (including children) Understanding of the school social work profession including associated laws, ethical issues, professional issues and standards Experience using MS Word, Excel and databases Experience working with community agencies to coordinate services
