Responsibilities
BASIC SUMMARY:
Responsible for the performing technical tasks associated with sample tracking, DNA extraction and genotyping of intercompany and commercial laboratory samples.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Assist with sample receipt, tracking documentation using customized computer and manual applications.
* Perform clipping and tissue lysis.
* Perform high throughput DNA extraction & polymerase chain reaction (PCR) genotyping.
* Quantitate DNA by yield gel electrophoresis or spectrophotometry.
* Perform gel electrophoresis of PCR products and digital imaging of PCRs.
* May be required to order primers.
* Maintain/update PCR primer and PCR control inventories.
* Preparation and documentation of laboratory reagents.
* Share responsibility for maintaining appropriate inventory levels of departmental supplies.
* May assist in Internet Laboratory Information Management System (ILIMS) accessioning of commercial and/or intercompany departmental work.
* May be required to package and ship laboratory related materials in compliance with International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines.
* Share responsibility for departmental housekeeping and equipment maintenance.
* Responsible for adhering to all safety and standard operating procedures.
* Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
* Education: Associates Degree (AA or AS) or equivalent in Biological Sciences or related discipline. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
* Experience: One to two years technical experience or must have demonstrated full knowledge of competencies and positive performance at the previous level.
* An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
* Certification/Licensure:NoneOther: Fundamental knowledge of Mendelian genetics and MS Office experience helpful.
