Description
Summary:
Performs comprehensive patient assessments and evaluation including various sleep studies and treatment in order to diagnose the type and extent of sleep disorders. May perform other departmental procedures as required. This is a FT position, working 36-40/hours per week.

Essential Functions (greater than or equal to 10% of time):
40%- Administers Polysomnographic Study (Diagnostic and Titration), MSLT and MWT
* Follow procedural protocols to ensure collection of appropriate data
* Establish and document baseline values
* Perform polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free and make adjustments, if necessary
* Documents test results, routine observations, including sleep states and clinical events, changes in procedure, and significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results
* Oversee and perform difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions
* Collects and transmits biological specimens for analysis
* Sterilizes and disinfect equipment after each use
40%- Polysomnographic Record Scoring
* Scores sleep/wake stages by apply professionally accepted guidelines
* Score clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals)
* Generate accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data
10%- Testing Preparation Procedures
* Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments if necessary
* Apply electrodes and sensors
* Perform positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting
Secondary Functions (less than 10% of time):
5%- Gather and Analyze Patient Information
* Perform diagnostic test to determine origin of sleep related disorder(s)
* Collect, analyze, and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet patient needs
* Complete and verify documentation
* Explain pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to the patient
5%- Ensures test results are promptly reported to the physician and medical records department
* Ensures all tests are completed in a timely and accurate manner
* Notifies referring physician of preliminary and final test results
* Act as a liaison for referring physicians
* Ensures that the proper documentation and charging is done for each procedure performed
5%- Answers department telephone by routing callers to appropriate individual, takes messages, and scheduling appointments
5%- Cleans and stocks examine rooms
* Orders supplies when necessary
Position Requirements
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience with Adult and Pediatrics preferred.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Provide prompt, accurate service to internal and external customers. Follows the clinics exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens. Basic knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT/HCPS coding conventions and procedures. Strong typing skills and working knowledge of computer systems particularly with a windows based environment. Excellent interpersonal communication with customer and co-workers. Basic knowledge of physician office documentation standards. Ability to organize and prioritize work appropriately and be self motivated.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) and ACLS credential required.
Lead Duties – (if assigned):
Training of new employees; Coordinate and perform in-department training, as needed; Assisting with day-to-day department needs (supplies, equipment, etc.) to ensure department stays within budget; Coordinate PTO for staff members and arrange float coverage as appropriate; Monitor provider schedules, insure that schedules are filled, utilize provider wait list as required; Continuous improvement to department processes; Works with teammates to ensure the daily work flow is efficient and patients are roomed timely and report problems and solutions within a timely manner; Responsible for adjusting staff schedules to flex up/down on busy/slow days; Participating in interview process with hiring manager, as needed; Attend meetings outside of normal business hours.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time. Employee may be required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk as well as twist and bend. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee will be required to walk up and down stairs.
Work Environment:
Fast-paced environment especially in dealing with sleep study situations. Direct patient and client contact while delivering services and treatment. Evening/Night hours required. Travel to satellite facilities may be required.
