DEPARTMENT: INFORMATION SERVICES
LOCATION: EAU CLAIRE, WI DISTRIBUTION CENTER
REPORTS TO: TEAM LEADER/MANAGER
TRAVEL REQUIRED? OCCASIONAL
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Progress Programmer in I.S. DC is responsible for providing programming services for the Information Services Distribution Center Computer Department. This position requires atleast a Two-year Technical degree in Computer Programming, MIS, related field or equivalent work experience required. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or MIS is preferred. The ideal candidate must have experience working with databases and database applications. Progress programming is a plus. The position requires a highly motivated, team-oriented person with excellent communication skills.
Must be knowledgeable in computers, peripherals and operating systems (UNIX, Windows 9X/2000/XP, MS Office, etc.). Candidate will be responsible for all aspects of the system development life cycle, from start to finish. Our programmers help design, code, test, and implement programs to help make our systems more efficient. The fundamental goal of the position is to support the DC Team Members, who in turn will provide better service for our stores and ultimately our guests.
Relocation to Eau Claire, WI and minimal travel required.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Development & Support:
* Using the Progress programming language, develop and maintain current and future DC systems.
* Work closely with the I.S. DC Team Leader on related projects providing timeline and task information through analysis based on a proposed project scope.
* Provide I.S. DC Team Leaders with updated task information on projects.
* Provide advanced-level technical support to Menards' corporate staff, store, Helpdesk, and technical support Team Members to troubleshoot problems as they arise.
* Maintain an in-depth knowledge of User’s operations to facilitate communication regarding User’s requirements.
* Meet with Users to evaluate customer satisfaction.
* Analyze user enhancements and maintenance requests; determine possible solutions, and complete necessary changes.
* Actively participate in writing code, testing and implementing program changes and program development.
* General:
* Consistently monitor own work to ensure the highest level of quality.
* Suggest and recommend better ways of improving the quality of work in the IS DC Department.
* Other tasks as assigned by IS DC Team Leader or Manager.
* Coordinate software and hardware installation with user departments, ensuring satisfactory results.
* Required to carry a department on-call phone on a rotational basis.
* Production Issues:
* Identify problem trends (single site or overall) pro-actively.
* Develop and execute action plan to determine problem, develop resolution and implement.
* Follow established process for problem handling or resolution.
* Security and Confidentiality:
* Maintain information confidentiality and security.
* Protect and prevent unauthorized attempts to obtain corporate information.
* Suggest and recommend ideas for systems and data security.
* Report all unauthorized incidents to management.
Skills/Requirements
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
* Either a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Two-year Technical degree in Computer Programming, MIS, related field or equivalent work experience required.
* Excellent object-oriented analysis and programming skills.
* Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills a must. Must also have above average verbal and written communication skills.
* Knowledge of project management tools and methodologies is a plus.
* Excellent analytical skills for problem determination and resolution.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities.
* Ability to work independently, as well as cooperate with others in team efforts.
* Proficiency in SQL, Progress or Informix case tools and / or programming.
* Knowledge of Oracle database administration, structured query language (SQL), and object relational database design concepts and practices are preferable.
* Knowledge of UNIX operating system and proficient in understanding and writing UNIX shell programs is helpful.
* Must work within designated normal office hours assigned or required by work.
* May be required to work overtime and provide on call support, including weekends and holidays.
