Essential Duties:

Receives the physician request and collects blood specimens from patients, properly identifying the patients, and promptly drawing and correctly labeling the specimens while maintaining a pleasant relationship with the patients, visitors and staff.
· Accurately performs venipunctures, heel sticks, and finger sticks, ensuring proper specimens for testing as well as ensuring patient safety.
· Enters pertinent information into computer. Properly transports specimens to maintain specimen quality.
· Responsible for maintaining strict confidentiality of patient information.
· Comprehends and follows infection control and blood borne pathogen policies.
· Cleans and stocks phlebotomy tray and work area.
· Traveling Phlebotomist operates a motor vehicle with in the laws of the State of Iowa to perform phlebotomy off campus as required by the job.
· Uses excellent customer service skills by using each of the following elements in every conversation: standard greeting, listening for critical content, acknowledging, questioning, advising, and standard closing.
· Ensures all proper documentation is on test requests as required for medical necessity.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
This position involves greeting patients and visitors and providing courteous, caring and professional assistance to all individuals contacting the office. Answering the telephone, scheduling appointments and working with clinical staff to provide efficient patient flow. Responsible for working efficiently with the electronic health record and billing system to input information related to billing and scheduling. In addition to tasks associated with this position, our team members must demonstrate professionalism, respect, good attitudes, effective communication, timeliness and commitment.
Qualifications
Previous medical office experience with medical office billing software or electronic health record.
Education
High School or Vocational School graduate. Previous experience coding diagnoses and procedures with ICD-9-CM and CPT. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology. Ability to effectively enter information into a variety of computer programs.
Strong interpersonal skills.
