Essential Job Functions:

1. Implements mechanical ventilation, ongoing patient/ventilator management and assessment.

2. Advises physicians regarding therapy options as patient conditions warrant.

3. Assists and participates in emergency resuscitation to include, but not limited to, all phases of airway management.

4. Maintains equipment and supplies to assist physicians with all varieties of endoscopy and pulmonary diagnostic procedures.

5. Assumes principle responsibility for Respiratory Care Services/shift management in absence of a Team Leader.

6. Performs airway management such as intubations, trach care, endotracheal and tracheostomy tube changes and other related airway devices.

7. Develops plans for the delivery of Respiratory Care as directed by physicians or protocols and implements same in a timely manner.

8. Performs basic respiratory care.



1. Must be a graduate of an AMA approved school for Respiratory Care.

2. Preferred BS or BA degree.


1. Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner in the State of Nebraska required.

2. RRT credential by the NBRC required.

3. BLS, PALS, NRP and ACLS required. Must complete PALS, NRP and ACLS within 6 months of hire.

4. Certification as a NPS by the NBRC preferred.


1. Requires technical knowledge and critical thinking skills to assess and provide complex and difficult Respiratory Care interventions.

2. Must possess a broad and diverse knowledge of departmental policy, current standards of practice, protocols and procedures.

3. Minimum of two years of clinical practice preferred.

4. Must possess skills to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, family members and other staff members.
