Job Description The Soybean Entomology Intern will be an integral part of a team that is responsible for testing soybean breeding lines for resistance to insect pests.
The internship starts May 2013 and ends December 2013.
Duties/Responsibilities The successful candidate will assist with screening and rearing of soybean pests while gaining the knowledge and skills associated with plant pathology, genetics, and host-pathogen interactions. Responsibilities will include crossing, scouting field experiments, and working with growth chamber experiments. Attention to detail and ability to stay focused in performing repetitive tasks.
Education and Experience Minimum of junior standing majoring in agronomy, entomology, plant pathology, biology, plant health & protection, horticulture, or a related discipline.
Competencies An inspired individual who is determined to establish a career in biological sciences. Ability to communicate, read, and interpret instructions. Good interpersonal skills to function effectively in a team environment. Strong desire to gain hands-on experience in identifying and addressing research problems using scientific approaches. Experience with plant disease assessment and statistical analysis desirable.
