The Respiratory Care Practitioner performs all aspects of cardiopulmonary function assessment and care as outlined in national and departmental clinical standards of practice, (policy, procedure and clinical guidelines manual) and in accordance with written/verbal physician orders or approved protocols. Clinical practice activities include, but are not limited to performing EKG''s, assessing cardiopulmonary function, assessment based therapeutic interventions, analysis and reporting of clinical response, interdisciplinary discharge planning, and patient/family education. Accountabilities of the Respiratory Care Practitioner include the collection and assessment of history and physical information, diagnostic testing, and review of clinical data pursuant to the development and monitoring of planned interventions in collaboration with the medical staff and other members of the health care team. The Respiratory Care Practitioner supports, and participates as appropriate, in inter/intra departmental meetings, performance improvement activities, continuing education, professional growth and development activities and performs other duties as assigned. This is a staff position. The incumbent performs professional duties, under the indirect and general supervision of the Manager Cardio-Pulmonary, that relate to patient care in the scope of practice defined by the department and hospital as well as other duties assigned by the department manager. The incumbent performs assessment of patient condition, assignment of outcomes and quality control of tasks, treatment and testing environment. Skills required to interaction with other professionals, patients and their family, as well as external customers include, but are not limited to, verbal and written communication, problem solving, evaluation/assessment, tact and diplomacy. The position requires the ability to stand, walk, squat, sit, stretch both above and below the head, kneel, twist, turn, hear, verbalize and comprehend English, write, read, see, lift and pull a minimum of 50 pounds. Computer skills are also required
