Operates dump truck with snow plow and salt spreader working snow and ice removal. Learns to operate intermediate level equipment such as, but not limited to asphalt distributors, backhoes, concrete mixers, front end loaders, hydro-seeders, road wideners, tandem trucks, and tow pavers to perform duties such as carpenter work, bridge deck patching. Installation of performed pavement markings, servicing of heavy equipment, removal of pavement marking, and patching potholes.Special Requirements ::Must possess a valid driver's license, Class A commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement prior to appointment into this classification. The employee must successfully complete the KYTC Highway Technician Academy Level 1 or equivalent within one year of employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.Job Group ::ENGINEERING AND GEOLOGICALCharacteristics of the Job ::Performs basic level work and assists with intermediate level work in roadway or roadside maintenance operations. Learns to operate intermediate level equipment such as, but not limited to asphalt distributors, asphalt hot boxes, asphalt recyclers, backhoes, belt loaders, concrete mixers, front-end loaders, hydro- seeders, pipe cleaners, road wideners, rollers, skid steers with attachments, slope mowers, tandem dump trucks, and tow pavers; and performs other duties as required. Assists with technical tasks in support of agency engineering programs such as, but not limited to quality assurance, and material calculations while training under the responsibility of a Highway Technician or Engineer; and performs other duties as required. (Engineering decisions recommended by positions of the class must be approved by a Licensed Professional Engineer under KRS 322.)Minimum Requirement - Education ::High school graduate.Minimum Requirement - Experience ::Must have two years of highway related experience in maintenance or construction.Substitute Education for Experience ::Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, geology, earth science, industrial drafting, design technology, construction technology or a related field will substitute for two (2) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance.
