Prepares technical reports. Recommends and monitors operational budgets. Oversees activities of crews and the work of sub-professional employees. Reviews completed work of contractors. Reviews construction documentation for technical accuracy. Analyzes data obtained, and submits necessary reports and technical information. Estimates project costs, and checks estimates. Operates computer and applicable software related to highway construction or maintenance.Special Requirements ::Must possess a valid driver's license, Class A commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement prior to appointment in this classification. The employee must successfully complete the KYTC Highway Technician Academy Level 5 or equivalent within one year of employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.Job Group ::ENGINEERING AND GEOLOGICALCharacteristics of the Job ::Oversee activities on advanced construction or maintenance projects. Perform tasks requiring the application of complex technical principles in the design, development and/or review of advanced engineering projects; will be responsible for reviewing the work of sub-professional employees; plans, organizes, assists and inspects the proper installation of complex traffic control and safety of job sites; provides training for employees tasked with traffic control installations for construction and maintenance projects and advises management on all traffic control set-ups; and performs other duties as required. (Engineering decisions recommended by positions of this class must be approved by a Licensed Professional Engineer under KRS 322.)Minimum Requirement - Education ::High school graduate.Minimum Requirement - Experience ::Must have twelve years of highway related experience in maintenance or construction.Substitute Education for Experience ::Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, geology, earth science, industrial drafting, design technology, construction technology or a related field will substitute for two (2) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance. Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering will substitute for four (4) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance. Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in Engineering Technology with completion of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program will substitute for six (6) years of highway related experience in construction or maintenance.
