Job Description Summary


Key Quality Assurance Lab Technician personnel provides guidance and leadership to ensure that all testing, inspections, and verification are performed in an efficient manner throughout the shift. This position is responsible for communicating and coordinating workload within the quality department. This position performs microbiological, analytical, milk, sensory, and quality testing, inspections and verification.





Essential Duties and Responsibilities



+ Provides and or coordinates coverage for Lab Technician (Micro), Lab Technician (Analytical), Quality Assurance Technician (Process), and Quality Assurance Technician (Sensory).


+ Assists lab management to ensure all Quartz data entry has occurs on the shift.


+ Performs mathematical calculations relating to test data. Enters test data into the electronic data systems such as Quartz, Excel, and other data management as required. Analyzes test results for trends.


+ Provides assistance between quality and production in troubleshooting issues with out of specification results.


+ Provides leadership presence on the production floor while collecting samples and swabbing.


+ Leads shift meetings and shares pass down information.


+ Provides coverage for absenteeism.


+ Reports results to production and quality management.


+ Performs duties based on the quality and lab master sanitation schedule.


+ Trains Quality department employees in all areas to ensure success in operations.


+ Puts supplies away upon arrival.


+ Coordinates requisition, testing and disposal of out of specification finished product rechecks.


+ Works with service and or vendor providers when management is not available.


+ Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned by management.


+ Follows all clean up and housekeeping procedures. Complies with all quality, safety, and work-rule requirements.


+ Follows all Good Manufacturing Practices as stated within the policy.


+ Follows all Safety Rules and procedures by working safely and ensuring safety of others.


+ Follows all food safety procedures.


+ Follows all environmental protocols as applicable to job to prevent pollution to air, land, or water.


+ Follows all sanitation procedures and work instructions.


+ Follows all continuous improvement actions and rules and best practices.






Qualifications and Competencies


Minimum education and experience required:



+ Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, college degree preferred.


+ Ability to read and understand quality and laboratory procedures.


+ Ability to function as a team leader, promote and contribute to group goals.


+ Ability to perform mathematical calculations.


+ Ability to operate all office, quality and laboratory equipment as required to perform job duties as assigned.


+ Requires proficiency in SAP, and MS Office. (Word, Excel, One Note, Outlook, etc.)


+ Requires ability to learn and be proficient at quality, regulatory lab testing procedures and documentation techniques.


+ Requires high level of oral and written communication skills with coworkers, intradepartmental and management.


+ Strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task.


+ Technical skills in cheese production technologies preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, use hands, handle small objects or controls, and perform repetitive motions. The employee is required to sit, reach above shoulders, taste, smell, talk and hear.


The employee must frequently lift, move up to 10 pounds and must occasionally lift, move, and push up to 50 pounds collecting samples and performing tests, inspections, or verifications. Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.





Work Environment


The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.


The employee occasionally works in proximity to fumes or air-borne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and in non-weather related extreme cold.


The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.





Working Conditions


Work is performed largely in a production environment, but also in a laboratory. Hours of work will generally be at least 42.5 hours a week. Will also work weekends following a rotation. At times there will be some variation in work hours due to absenteeism, special projects, deadlines and other concerns.

Protective Equipment


Employees must wear uniforms, safety glasses, slip resistant safety toe footwear, protective gloves, a hair net, Tyvex apron, ear protection, and other PPE as required.
