Production Supervisor

Job SummaryThe Production Supervisor oversees the day-to-day-planning, development, implementation and maintenance of Avantor methods, processes and operations for new and existing products. He/she ensures the effective use of materials, equipment and personnel in safely producing quality products while minimizing costs. The Production Supervisor develops systems to maintain reports and keep records of company products. He/she develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the area of responsibility. He/she ensures all employees are properly trained and qualified to perform their assignments. The Production Supervisor acts as liaison between departments and plant in prioritization of projects and ensures documentation, procedures and metrics are followed and maintained.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



+ Works directly with hourly personnel to attain production goals and objectives


+ Enforces plant policies including safety, environmental, cGMP and housekeeping


+ Orients and trains new employees and develops through progression system to utmost potential; provides feedback on performance to hourly personnel


+ Works with department members on scheduling production, labor, maintenance and project work in their respective operating areas


+ Interfaces with the other operating areas, Quality Control Laboratory, Quality Assurance, Distribution, Industrial Health and Safety, Plant Support Group in normal day-to-day operations


+ Assists in scale up of new products and interfaces with PDD and R&D


+ Identifies and implements opportunities for continuous improvement and cost savings projects


+ Responsible for reviewing job cost closing and assisting reconciliation of materials in production runs


+ Drives critical performance goals and plans that enable the team to achieve those objectives


+ Implements and monitors employee training needs


+ Provides employees with daily direction setting and problem solving


+ Inspects products daily and implements corrective action to eliminate and prevent off-quality product from being produced


+ Supports regulatory activities such as training, validation studies, corrective and prevention action, complaint response and internal and external audits


+ Assists/leads departmental coordination activities such as cGMP, environmental, ISO or safety


+ Assists with documentation maintenance, practices, procedures, policies and values


+ Performs other duties as assigned with or without accommodation





Each employee is responsible to manage their departments and perform their defined tasks in order to comply with and maintain the sites' ISO 9000/1400 certification and all regulatory requirements and is expected to shut down the operation and notify management if questions regarding compliance or other issues requiring additional attention arise. Regulatory requirements include, but are not limited to cGMPs, EPA, OSHA, DEA, DOT, and any other applicable local, governmental and company guidelines.




MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


Education:


High school diploma required


Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Science or a related field preferred or equivalent experience


Six sigma green belt and/or lean manufacturing certifications preferred




Experience:


Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience in technical, engineering and/or supervisory roles required


SAP experience required


Experience in a supervisor capacity strongly preferred


Experience working with a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) preferred


Chemical manufacturing experience preferred


SAP experience required






Skills/Competencies:


Excellent writing and presentation skills (verbal and written)


Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills


Excellent organization and project management skills


Ability to interface effectively with people at all levels of the organization


Proven ability to manage multiple projects toward timely completion


Knowledge and experience with technology and computers, including the Microsoft Office suite, is required


Strong interpersonal and communication skills with all levels of the organization


Able to apply logical thinking to diagnose issues/problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions to solve to root cause(s)


Able to demonstrate initiative and ability to perform as part of a team


Knowledge of chemical manufacturing and plant support systems

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE:


The Production Supervisor reports to the Production Manager for their assigned area and directly manages a team of operators. He/she may have occasional contact with personnel external to the organizational site. The Production Supervisor may be responsible to lead, train, and oversee other supervisors performing similar functions.
