Plans, prepares and implements culturally and developmentally appropriate lesson plans for an assigned group of children. Establishes a learning environment that encourages a positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation to promote development in all domains of Head Start Outcomes Framework. Learns and follows all Texas Neighborhood Services (TNS), Head Start (HS) and local, state and federal standards, criteria, policies and procedures. Creates and implements learning activities - that develop cognitive and emotional competence of preschool children based on the Creative Curriculum for Preschool. Provides a print rich environment in which children develop literacy, numeracy and social skills using increasing complex language and problem solving abilities. Completes paperwork as required by all licensing agencies and TNS/HS Management. Maintains current, complete and accurate enrollment forms for all children. Provides supervision and ensures the safety and security of children at all times in accordance with Head Start and Licensing requirements. Maintains a classroom ECERS rating of at least a 5 at all times while striving to reach a rating of a 7. Provides support to children and families in the area of school readiness to ensure smooth transition to public school. Ensures paperwork is completed with accuracy, integrity, professionalism and submitted within established timelines. Supervises and eats nutritionally prepared meals with the children in a family style meal as a curriculum activity, to model good nutrition and proper social skills for preschool children. On a weekly basis, observes and records information about all children in a nonjudgmental manner for use in planning and individualizing class activities. Reports indicators of child abuse and/or neglect according to current Head Start procedures. Provides positive guidance and discipline supporting children as they acquire readiness skills for kindergarten and beyond. Attends monthly parent meetings. Establishes positive and productive relationships with families focusing on a relationship of trust and support. Schedules and completes two home visits per year and at least two parent-teacher conferences per year. Encourages parent participation in staff-parent conferences and home visits discussing the childs development and education. Attends staff meetings as required. Understands, generates and documents In-Kind contributions and Teachable Moments. Participates in recruitment to ensure classroom/center enrollment and wait list goals are met. Maintains confidentiality of all Head Start/Early Head Start family records and information in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards, Texas State Minimum Standards for Child Care Centers, and Texas Neighborhood Services Policies and Procedures. Undertakes and supports any policy, change, system, or work rules TNS implements regarding the purpose of this position. Maintain a satisfactory score based on National averages in Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) for effective teacher-child interactions in the areas of emotional support, classroom organization and instructional support.
