Department Description: St. John Providence Health System Laboratories is comprised of hospital-based and outpatient service centers.

Job Summary:Under the general direction of a Laboratory Director and Laboratory Medical Director, a Laboratory Manager has 24-hour responsibility for his/her assigned unit, area, or site. A Laboratory Manager is responsible for recommending budgets, developing unit/area/site specific operating procedures, and providing input into the overall operation of the St. John Health System Laboratory. A Laboratory Manager is also responsible for the internal operation of his/her assigned area or site, and manages System Laboratory resources to effectively and efficiently meet cost, revenue, profitability, and customer service commitments of the System Laboratory. Functions as a key member of the System Lab Management Team in making decisions and demonstrating leadership that advances and supports the integrated System Lab. Ensures personnel follow safety, environmental, infection control, health system, hospital, and departmental policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.
Required:
MT(ASCP), or other nationally-recognized certification examination required.
Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited college/university including courses in biological science, chemistry, and mathematics or post-secondary diploma (Canadian applicants)
Successful completion of an accredited Histotechnologist program or; three to five years acceptable clinical laboratory experience under the supervision of a Pathologist, in lieu of accredited program.
Demonstrated track record and leadership experience in the clinical laboratory or related field
2-3 years previous supervisory experience or other progressively more responsible job-related experience
Preferred:
Master's degree (or equivalent) and/or Specialty certification in discipline preferred.
Demonstrated PC skills, LIS experience.
