Facility Manager


The Facility Manager ensures the facility is properly cleaned, safe, and sanitary for all residents, staff and visitors. The Facility Manager reports directly to the Director of Facilities for Family and MICA Shelters and supervises a team of porters to ensure that all work orders and building repairs are completed and all vacant units are made ready for new intakes.


+ The Facility Manager reports directly to the Director of Facilities for Family and MICA Shelters regarding all facility related issues; immediately and reports any major building repairs or needs.

+ The Facility Manager ensures all vacant units are made ready for new admissions within the DHS regulatory timeline of 4 hours post discharge.

+ The Facility Manager ensures all public areas and workspaces are routinely cleaned.

+ The Facility Manager monitors the system of work orders and ensures all work orders are completed promptly.

+ The Facility Manager assists in the planning, management and hands-on work of all special projects (i.e. plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting).

+ The Facility Manager distributes work assignments to porters and/or maintenance workers as needed.

+ The Facility Manager oversees the distribution of client and maintenance supplies and ensures proper inventory documentation is kept.

+ The Facility Manager drives agency vehicle as needed. Accurately tracks all mileage within van log book.

+ The Facility Manager ensures agency vehicle receives routine oil changes, tune ups, winterization.

+ In conjunction with the Program Director and the Director of Facilities, The Facility Manager ensures all maintenance staff are properly trained and knowledgeable of OSHA standards.

+ The Facility Manager assists the Director of Facilities in keeping weekly attendance records.

+ The Facility Manager must be available to contact 24/7 in the event of a facilities emergency.

+ The Facility Manager's work week will regularly include working on Saturday or Sunday.

+ Other assignments and tasks may be added at the discretion of the Director of Family Shelters or Salvation Army Department Heads.

+ Has respect and consideration for the people being served.

+ Always provides proper notification as per Salvation Army procedures when late or absent.

+ Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of workflow.

+ Able to perform duties independently, with minimal need of direct supervision.

+ Maintains the confidentiality of clients, shelter/programs, agency, and/or The Salvation Army.

+ Reports to work well-groomed and in compliance with dress code. Wears I.D. badge while on duty.

+ Demonstrates the ability to interact in a positive and helpful manner with clients, visitors, contract staff, volunteers and co-workers.

+ Reflects commitment to building a supportive work environment and maintains a positive attitude at the work place and towards job.

+ Projects a good image in dealing with the public and its clients. Is willing to make an extra effort to help build a quality and caring shelter/program.


+ High School Diploma or GED is required.

+ Must have at least five years of facility maintenance experience and at least two years of experience providing supervision for a maintenance department.

+ Must have the ability to lift at least fifty pounds and be able to work at least an eight hour shift primarily standing and moving.

+ Knowledge in the areas of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting and technical knowledge of mechanical systems operated within the physical plant are important skills required for this job.

+ Certifications in Boiler Maintenance and Sprinkler System preferred.

+ Valid New York State driver's license is required.

+ Must be willing to become certified as a Fire Safety Coordinator.
