Job Description**
**This is a 3 year position with an anticipated end date in 2021**

Reporting to the Associate Vice President and University Registrar, the Senior Business Analyst will be responsible for analysis and solution definition to resolve business related problems. This individual will handle various projects for the University Registrar in collaboration with Columbia University Information Technology, including key responsibilities directly relating to the replacement/enhancement of Columbia's Student Information System. The Senior Business Analyst will also serve as an important interface between the Student Financial Services and University Registrar teams and with the CUIT staff relative to systems projects. This position will be responsible for collecting and organizing data, maintaining information in a knowledge base system as well as possessing the ability to define collection methodology, templates, and tools. The position will serve as a critical liaison with key clients/stakeholders to obtain detailed business requirements and to escalate and resolve business system design and implementation issues in a timely and appropriate manner.

-Establishes and maintains effective relationships with client subject matter experts and staff;

-Works with clients/stakeholders to identify required changes;

-Prepares business and technical documentation necessary to support business process changes or creation;

-Performs investigational analysis and evaluation to determine project or application feasibility;

-Develops analyses of departmental business practices/processes for the purpose of identifying opportunities for streamlining existing procedures and identifying ways in which technology can support business strategies;

-Identifies, defines, records, and communicates user and functional requirements for necessary software, data storage and retention, or workflow and business process changes;

-Prepares, maintains, and reviews documentation, including procedures, systems specifications, technical documentation, computer training materials, and user manuals;

-Independently prioritizes multiple requests and systems requirements to meet organizational goals;

-Quickly understands business issues and data challenges of client/stakeholder organization and functional operation;

-Identifies client/stakeholder organization's strengths and weaknesses and suggests areas of improvement;

-Reviews and edits requirements, specifications, business processes, and recommendations related to proposed solutions;

-Leads and participates in testing efforts;

-Ensures issues are identified, tracked, reported, and resolved in a timely manner;

-Communicates needed changes to development team;

-Assists in the facilitation of team and client/stakeholder meetings;

-Delivers informative, well-organized presentations and training sessions;

-Identifies critical issues with ease;

-Communicates with clients/stakeholders to identify needs and evaluate alternative business solutions with project management;

-Continually seeks opportunities to increase client/stakeholder satisfaction and deepen these relationships;

-Handle and manage other project assignments and associated tasks as needed.

-Bachelor's degree required. Minimum of 4 years of related experience.

-Possesses in-depth understanding of business and supporting strategies;

-Exhibits confidence and an extensive knowledge of emerging industry practices when solving business problems;

-Pushes creative thinking beyond the boundaries of existing industry practices and client/stakeholder mindsets;

-Keeps and manages the attention of clients/stakeholders by effectively involving these audiences and presenting oneself and projects in a professional way;

-Adapts messaging to changing circumstances and reactions of audiences using the impact of voice, body language, and different presentation devices;

-The ability to effectively manage client/stakeholder expectations is an essential professional attribute.

-Must be able to demonstrate excellent organizational, analytical, critical thinking, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills.

-In addition, the successful candidate must be able to work well with all levels of employees, be flexible in the execution of project deliverables, and have sound judgment with an open and collaborative style that encourages teamwork and cooperation beyond the immediate team to the broader organization.

-Experience with project-tracking software such as JIRA, general programming languages such as Python, and database management skills, including SQL and ITIL practices, desirable
