Principal OTS Project Engineer

**Job title:**

Principal OTS Project Engineer

**Role synopsis:**

Operator Training Simulators (OTS) are used in BP refining to develop the skills of refinery console operators, which contributes to safe, reliable, and compliant operations in our refineries.

To increase the usage of OTS, BP established a program to deliver high-fidelity simulators and operator training programs for major process units, at all BP-operated refineries globally. The OTS Program is being managed by Refining Technology and Engineering (RTE), the technology organisation which supports BP's downstream businesses. The program was kicked off in 2010, and is currently more than half-way through delivering 34 simulators.

Within RTE, a multi-discipline OTS team helps build and maintain the simulators and training programs. The team includes modelling engineers, a training leader, OTS project engineers and an OTS program manager.

The role of the OTS Project Engineer is to (1) lead individual projects on behalf of RTE - ensuring that each project is delivered to the standards defined by the Program, (2) provide automation and systems expertise and (3) support sites in keeping deployed systems up to date. This is a hands-on role, working closely with refinery teams, the RTE OTS team, and the OTS vendors. The OTS Project Engineer maintains oversight of all aspects of the project, and intervenes whenever necessary to ensure successful delivery of simulators.

After delivery, the OTS Project Engineer remains the primary RTE contact for specific simulators, co-ordinating and/or performing maintenance and upgrade activities.

With a solid background in Process Control, Process Engineering and/or Operations, the OTS Project Engineer is expected to contribute to technical discussions within the project team, and to engage with experts in RTE and at the refineries to resolve problems and move projects forward.

As the primary interface between the RTE program and the site OTS team, the OTS Project Engineer will also lead discussions on the standards and expectations of the OTS program with site stakeholders to get alignment on commitment of site resources in both project and maintenance phases of training simulator life cycle.

Reporting Relationships:

The OTS Project Engineer will be part of the Global Programs within RTE, and report the OTS Program Manager.
