Job Description
I. Position Purpose : The Data Center Engineers primary responsibility is to assist in maintaining continuous up-time of the Data Center. This is accomplished by monitoring critical Data Center support systems and responding to alarms caused by faults and failures. Assisting and monitoring preventive maintenance of critical support equipment.
II. Job Duties : The following describes the typical duties which would be done as part of this position but not limited to. Focus on the purpose of the duties and the results to be accomplished.
A. Monitor all Data Center support systems
" Monitor critical Data Center systems by using the automated Building Management System (BMS)
" Visual inspections and readings
B. Respond to alarm, faults, and failures
" Respond to alarms on critical systems
" Trouble shoot and take necessary actions to maintain critical Data Center systems
" Respond to trouble calls from other operators and/or support personnel
" Contact appropriate vendor and/or contractors to respond
C. Perform testing on equipment and systems
" Complete tasks as part of a preventive maintenance schedule
" Complete minor preventive maintenance tasks
D. Administrative duties
" Maintain Engineering logs
" Maintain Equipment logs
" Record Engineers report as needed
" Preventive maintenance logs
" Follow proper escalation procedures
E. Complete training
" Cross train on all systems
" Keep updated on procedures and new equipment
" On-the-job training
" Increase equipment knowledge through self-study
F. Monitor activities of outside contractors
" Escort contractors and/of vendors in all engineering areas
" Monitor actions of contractors and/or vendors as they work in and around critical systems
G. Safety and Cleaning
" Maintain safe work environments
" Monitor actions of cleaning contractors
" Clean all critical equipment as needed or as part of preventive maintenance
III. Work Schedule
A. Shift work
" Able to work any shift as part of the 7x24 building coverage
B. Overtime
" Overtime to be worked as required
" Call in coverage may be required

Basic Requirements V. Qualifications : This is the minimum level of experience, education, technical knowledge, and abilities required.
A. Relative experience (one or more may apply)
" Electrical and/or mechanical
" Large generator systems
" UPS systems operation
" Power distribution
" Mechanical plant operations
" Building Management System
" Knowledge working in an up-time environment
B. Education (one or more may apply)
" High school
" Trade school or equivalent
" College and/or continuing education
C. Abilities
" Oversee the work vendors and contractors would perform in the Data Center and Central Plant.
" Able to use basic hand tools and electrical and mechanical test equipment
" Read and interpret blue prints and technical material
" Self starter
" Able to work with little supervision
" Computer skills
Additional Skills">Additional Skills Additional Skills">Successful completion of certified school in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning. Universal EPA certification. One year experience in welding, brazing, metal repair, carpentry work, framing and finish, plumbing repairs and installation, and electrical repairs. Must have valid drivers license.
