Title: EHS Specialist

SCOPE:
Reporting to the Global EHS Manager, the EHS Specialist will assist with the design, implementation, maintenance and review of the company's Environmental, Health and Safety programs to ensure compliance with legislative, corporate and industry requirements for chemicals and instrumentation. Individual acts as an SME and advisor to all teams on site in relation to EHS matters and work with AB SCIEX EHS team to implement programs at other AB SCIEX sites.
KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBIITES:
* Work with site operations to identify and resolve safety and environmental issues and ensure full compliance with local regulatory and corporate requirements.
* Responsible for implementing an Environmental, Health and Safety Plan that is in compliance with local legislation and consistent with corporate policies for site operations.
* Develop and implement EHS training programs to help maintain a safe and compliant working environment.
* Keep up to date with EHS best practices and technologies, communicating this information to site operations and driving implementation where appropriate.
* Develop good working relationships with local statutory organizations and with EHS team.
* Provide direction, training and co-ordination to the organization, maintaining EHS & Security focus, ensuring best practices are in place.
* Develop and implement programs to meet current and future laboratory objectives and requirements.
* Interface with Site Management, particularly in the areas of EHS Excellence and participate as a supportive member to the organization.
* Reinforce the importance of EHS in the organization and work with site teams to integrate EHS into facility operations and to continuously develop a positive EHS culture.
* Perform periodic evaluations to ensure compliance with safety and environmental permits, plans, policies and regulatory requirements.
* Prepare, implement and review of EHS Procedures and other EHS documents appropriate to the scope of site activities and in compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.
* Develop guidance for facilities management of contractor related activities during normal operations and project/construction activities.
* Support and drive EHS metrics reporting
* Support internal and corporate EHS auditing programs
* Support site operations by reviewing all chemical purchases to ensure regulatory compliance
* Provide EHS leadership and support to the JHSC.
* Ensure timely completion and communication of workplace inspection findings.
* Maintain HWIN Administration
* Maintain the fire safety plan and ensure that fire drills are conducted in accordance with regulatory requirements.
* Proactively oversee facility and process changes to ensure compliance with regulatory compliance and participate on the Management of Change Committee (MOC).
* Work closely with HR on claims management and return to work programs.
* Diploma or Bachelors Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or equivalent
* At least 3 years professional experience in an EHS role.
* Must possess or be working towards obtaining a CHSC or CRSP designation
* Experience in laboratory operations.
* Experience in electrical safety (lockout/tagout and alternate methods of controlling hazardous energy)
* Knowledgeable of policies and procedures associated with compliance with local safety and environmental regulations.
* Ability to work effectively with site and laboratory teams to motivate and develop strong safety and environmental awareness in all employees.
* Previous experience in dealing with regulatory agencies such as Ministry of Labour, WSIB, Ministry of the Environment and regional authorities.
* Previous experience in carrying out Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment
* Travel may be required up to 30%
* Knowledge of OSHA laws and regulations
* Development of training programs utilizing Learning Management Systems (LMS)
