Production Team Lead / Lodi-138
Job Description
Department:Production Department
Reports To:Production Supervisors in various production areas
FLSA Status:Non-Exempt
SUMMARY:The production lead operator is responsible for the performance of the line in one of the following areas: Bread Production, Bread Packing, Bagels, Danish, Donuts, Cake and Finishing Departments; ensures that the line is running safely and meeting all production targets (t-max, metal detectors, quality, yield, etc.). The line operator keeps production on schedule and handles changes and problems. The line operator also makes line decisions when the Supervisor is unavailable and backs up the production aspects of the Supervisor position for days off, vacations and illness.
MAIN DUTIES/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:·Turnover with other line operators at both ends of the shift to discuss production changes and which tasks still need to be completed
·Check schedules for production changes
·Give work direction to the teams on the shift - make sure the Line Workers have a copy of the Playbook
·Use the computer to access information and checklists; fill out various forms as well as entering data into the computer
·Order ingredients, boxes and other materials
·Set up and prepare line for production.
·Handle any unscheduled work, reassign line workers as necessary
·Know how to operate all machinery in his/her area of responsibility and check to make sure it is functioning correctly
·Schedule and relieve Line Workers and Machine Operators for rotations, breaks and lunch
·Adjust the line speed when necessary
·Pick up labels from the Label Technician; make up and print out any additional labels
·Act as liaison with other departments – Quality Control; Maintenance; Sanitation; Shipping & Receiving; Safety
·Perform pre-inspection of the line with QC to make sure it’s clean and ready to run the next product
·Re-emphasize safety and proper operating procedures on the line.
·Ensure area is clean during and at the end of the shift
SAFETY:·Comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) and all other food safety requirements as they relate to all products and processes
·Ensure Line Workers and Machine Operators are wearing all required PPE’s
·Report any potentially unsafe practices/conditions to the Supervisor
·Be able to safely lift items from 10-25 pounds – boxes, scrap bins, garbage bins – ask for help for lifting heavier items
·Recommend changes to improve production processes and standards
·Must be certified to use the motorized Pallet Jack or Fork Lift
·Know how to safely operate the lines and machines in order to teach others or fill in
WORK ENVIRONMENT:·May be assigned to work in extremely cold or hot conditions
·Most positions are located in areas with loud noise and will require the employee to wear protective ear plugs
·Other conditions include flour dust, wet floors, occasional smoke and fumes if bread burns, occasional fumes from cleaning chemicals (ammonia)
·Work with pressurized air and water approximately 10% of the time.
·Chemical Handling/Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) approximately 5% of the time
SCOPE:·These positions back up some of the functions of the Supervisor position (production paperwork, ordering ingredients)
·Daily interaction with other Line Operators and the Supervisor
·Gives work direction to Production Department teams
·Knows when to make independent decisions and when to confer with the Supervisor
·Can stop the line if he/she sees there is a problem

·Mathematical skills – able to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals

·High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferable; or 3 to 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
·Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, E-mail, and simple database applications
·Demonstrated leadership skills
·Proficient in performance of all Line positions (Line Worker – Levels 1&2 and Machine Operator – Levels 1&2) tasks;
·Ability to read and understand English required
·Willingness to work weekends and overtime when required
·Ability to perform physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. These include:oConstant Walking, Standing on hard concrete surface
