Manager - Regulatory, Safety and Quality Standards (Vans): Become the Newest Member of the Vans Family


Here at Vans, we strive to keep our employees, offices, factories and customers safe. As the Regulatory, Safety, and Quality Standards Manager has the great responsibility to own the global compliance process associated with the Vans supply chain of footwear, apparel, accessories and hardgoods. You are a key partner and will also need to engage with and be a liaison to Vans raw material suppliers including fabric, trim and print. In this position, you will ensure that all Vans nominated suppliers are in compliance with the relevant social, sustainable, environmental, and regulatory standards identified by Vans, VF or as determined by law. You will manage communication and follow through with each supplier as well as being the primary internal contact at Vans for such policies and programs that dictate supplier compliance. The role also will be responsible for ensuring that quality standards are set and work with product development and the DC on any exception to minimize the cost, inventory and customer service impact to Vans. Your effectiveness in building partnerships, seeking continuous improvements, and intelligent decision making will make a difference in how you adapt and contribute to team success at Vans.




How You Will Make a Difference:



+ Partner with VF Product Stewardship team and Vans product development and retail teams to educate, review standards, and ensure that the brand is implementing the VF Global Standards for regulatory and compliance.


+ Manages all product safety regulations and compliance by Vans, especially focused on Youth. This includes the initiation and reporting for design and product reviews, safety manuals and upkeep of relevant internal standards.


+ Works closely with Coalition Vendor Compliance teams, VF Asia Compliance teams and VF Corp Compliance on overlapping social or environmental initiatives. Continues to drive Vans as the supply chain industry leader but also incorporates the larger VF goals.


+ Develops, publishes and implements standards that are clear, achievable and add value to Vans and its materials supply chain. Representative standards include Restricted Substance Lists (RSL), Physical Properties, Youth Safety Manuals.


+ Maintain current and the primary contact at Vans for all material trade regulations including CPSC, FTC, FDA, EPA and REACH. Published Technical Bulletins quarterly to the internal Vans staff on the latest updates and acts immediately on time sensitive issues.


+ Supports all full scale production testing programs related to physical properties, product safety and government regulations by managing within the material development process.


+ Educates all suppliers on existing Vans raw material supplier policies and implements any new policies with the least disruption of innovation and seasonal production. Works with our sourcing offices to publish all documents and collect signatures as required. Acts as the primary owner for all signed documentation related to material suppliers.


+ Develop, in collaboration with product development, and maintain Vans minimal acceptable quality standards for footwear, apparel, accessories, and hard goods to be used for auditing vendor shipments.


+ Manage vendor charge back submittals, root cause analysis, and performance tracking and reporting.


+ Collaborate with product quality and development to ensure all quality issues are communicated and resolved with the brand. Work with the DC and the sourcing offices to ensure that any exceptions are managed with a high sense of urgency and that solutions are developed that minimize any customer service, cost and inventory impact to VF and Vans.





Skills for Success:


Years of Related Professional Experience: 5+


Educational/ Position Requirements:



+ Four-year degree in Engineering, Quality Management, Textiles or related science.


+ Minimum five years of management experience in testing, manufacturing, or QC.


+ Two years of specific experience with textiles, or related materials science.





Skills:



+ Proficient Personal Computer skills with focus on Microsoft Word, Excel and Email communications.


+ Good analytical and mathematical skills.


+ Aptitude for systems and systematic work.


+ Excellent oral and written communications.


+ Strong interactive skills.


+ High color perception required (color vision).





Special Physical and/or Mental Requirements:



+ Safety and Hazmat Training preferred in Lab environment.


+ Membership in Industry organizations such as ASTM, ASQ, AATCC, or related standards organization.


+ Testing required for qualification.


+ Ability to communicate verbally in other languages is a plus (e.g. Chinese, Spanish).
