SUMMARY OF POSITION DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a Director, Nursing to join northernNew England's premier pediatric hospital, the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital.Referred to as a "hospital within a hospital", theBarbara BushChildren''s Hospital (BBCH) is integrated within Maine Medical Center to offer a complete range of pediatric services, specialties and programs including behavioral and developmental, neonatal, cardiology, infectious disease, neurology, palliative care and otolaryngology, among others.With 109 beds, including a 51 bed Level III NICU, it isMaine''s premier referral hospital, offering services not available elsewhere in the state.
The Director of the BBCH Inpatient Pediatric Unit is responsible for 33 inpatient beds and an active pediatric outpatient service.
The Director, Nursing is the vital link between the mission and vision ofMaineMedicalCenterand the delivery of safe patient and family centered care that is compassionate, evidence-based, and provides highest quality care. Reporting through the Vice President of Patient Care Services, this role requires collaboration with physicians, senior administration, directors and other professional colleagues to meet the diverse and continually changing challenges of the health care environment. TheDirector, Nursingmust be a creative, autonomous, future-oriented, risk-taking entrepreneur who applies nursing expertise, critical thinking, and effective leadership and management skills to ensure that quality care is provided through satisfied and inspired professionals.
A current ME RN license, minimum BSN, pediatric nursing experience and five years as a staff nurse and/or nurse manager are all essential requirements for this position.Our ideal candidate will also possess an MSN with interpersonal and management skills to address complex management problems and be an advocate for staff. He/she must also be able to communicate with unit personnel, physicians, administration and community and public relations persons.This individual will have a high level of critical thinking and analytical skills to make management decisions at unit level and make recommendations for consideration on departmental issues.
