Requirements
BASIC FUNCTION
Responsible for purchasing and negotiating materials, equipment, and/or services from suppliers. Prepares and evaluates supplier quotations and services to determine most competitive solution based upon a total cost of ownership. Familiar with a variety of purchasing concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Leads complex sourcing projects and supplier performance reviews. Performs a variety of complicated procurement tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is required.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Drive the RFx/acquisition process to secure goods/services in the assigned area of spend to ensure competitiveness and to limit risk of Kohler:
- Review purchase requirements with internal customer(s) to develop business need
- Recommend alternative material or methods based on knowledge of market availability
- Obtain supplier quotations/proposals on prospective purchases
- Review bid proposals, quotes and make recommendations
- Negotiate complex supplier agreements with awareness of the cultural, geographic, and political environment
- Expedite goods and services if needed and follow-up on major orders to ensure proper handling and delivery
- Draft boilerplate terms and conditions for contracts to meet business needs and with consideration of business law and intellectual property
Drive the supplier approval and management process by
- Identifying and maintaining direct contact with suppliers
- Visiting facilities as a team member to conduct supplier assessments with respect to business practices, quality of operations, opportunities for continuous improvement
- Supporting resolution of warranty and service issues with suppliers
- Establishing continuing total cost reduction programs (payment term, supplier stocking programs, and quality performance improvements)
- Maintaining ongoing supplier performance data for periodic internal/external review
- Directing regular supplier performance reviews and development of improvement plans
Maintain required records such as quotes and price lists, blanket order file, supplier correspondence, contracts, and purchasing metric dashboards
Review engineering notifications and drawings covering areas of responsibilities. Interact with category teams, supplier quality, materials management, engineering and operations
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
Business/Technology
Independently negotiate, execute and manage complex agreements generating win/win environments with strong understanding of contractual obligations. Develop unique terms and conditions for legal review with consideration of business and intellectual property law. Demonstrated ability to independently build negotiation strategy, applying BATNA (Best Alternative To Negotiated Agreement).
Demonstrate internal customer focus and knowledge of customer function/business.
Proactively anticipate customer needs, follow up on commitments and team with customers.
Relate company-level strategy to current position objectives.
Demonstrate creation of detailed market/industry supply & demand models and detailed supplier cost models. Calculate TCO on non-monetary and monetary values with detailed accounting & cash flow awareness. Follow leading edge trends in market/industry, and take initiative to undertake improvement opportunities.
Exhibit general understanding of computer network technology & B2B applications. Demonstrate methods for streamlined supplier connectivity.
Exhibit skill in developing & managing contingency plans, risk factors, and interdependencies. Exhibit ability to build detailed project plans, including, time, resource requirements, budget and deliverables. Demonstrate unaided capture/creation of a project scope, achievement of original project milestones and timeframes. Management of multi-location projects with the ability to marshal adequate project resources and project champion.
Possess expanded domestic awareness of culture, currency, geography, political environment through limited international exposure and experience with international transactions. Experienced in negotiating/managing point-to-point purchase agreements. Gained some experience of freight forwarding/customs clearance services.
Support/qualify/promote ideas to management (e.g. pursues champion). Proactively identify improvements, make fact-based decisions and display credibility for influence. Proficiently researches the market and reacts to maintain the speed of the industry.

Reports to Mgr-Purchasing, NPD & MCIP
Directly supervises - this position has no direct reports
Organization Relationships:
. Frequent contact with New Product Development, Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Logistics, Engineering, Regulatory Affairs, Legal and other Kohler business units and departments to effectively carry out responsibilities.
External Business Relationships:
. Involved regularly dealing with and creating strategic partnerships with suppliers throughout the world.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Business or Engineering, with minimum five years of professional experience.
