Payroll and Benefits Administrator

Daniels Sharpsmart Inc. (DSI) is a privately owned company, who provides a complete total waste solution to the USA market, with services including the provision of the Daniels Sharpsmart System (Collectors, Accessories and washers), transportation of medical and sharps waste, and treatment and disposal of medical waste. As a Payroll & Benefits Specialist/Administrator you will be responsible for bi-weekly payroll processing, payroll related payments/ queries, month end processing, maintaining the payroll files and HR personal files, and leading all efforts tied to HRIS reporting. Additionally, you will be responsible for the administration of group benefits, servings as the main point of contact for employee questions, and leading the back end benefits administration.


+ Execute, validate and perform necessary tasks to complete accurate and successful bi-weekly employee payrolls through ADP.

+ Process all leave forms and follow up outstanding leave forms.

+ Manage and maintain court ordered garnishments.

+ Perform employment verification, education verification, drug testing and criminal background checks.

+ Errors in payroll must be corrected in pay run immediately following the error being identified.

+ Ensure sufficient funds are available for all payroll processing

+ Ensure all payroll liabilities are paid on time.

+ HR/Payroll Personnel files are maintained and payroll database is updated accordingly, including setup of new employees and changes in payroll terms.

+ General filing duties that include ADP reports, ACH transfers, etc.

+ Ensure appropriate approvals are provided before changes in payroll occur.

+ Appropriate approvals are in place before each rate change including all salary rate changes made in ADP being approved by the Financial Accounting Manager or the National Recruitment Manager prior to payment being made.

+ Prepare bi-weekly management reporting.

+ Provide assistance as requested to management, finance team and HR

Benefits Administration

+ Serve as resource to employees by answering benefits related questions.

+ Support and coordinate annual open-enrollment process for benefits.

+ Administer benefits including Medical, Dental, Life, Disability, FSA, and 401(k) plans.

+ Coordinate leave requests, including Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) requests.

+ Oversee review of all billing to ensure accuracy; reconcile and submit invoices to Accounting for payment.

+ Answer all unemployment claims and verifications of employment.

+ Minimum 2-5 years of experience in a similar role

+ Knowledge in payroll tax, income tax and multi-state experience

+ Knowledge in group benefits plans

+ Strong communication and organizational skills

+ Attention to detail and strong analytical skills

+ Computer literacy with strong Excel skills

+ ADP Workforce Now experience preferred

+ Demonstrate a positive, proactive and motivated attitude to work

+ Proven focus on continuous improvement in the work place

+ Ability to roll with the punches and adapt to change
