UTC''s Climat, Controls & Securities Compression Technology & Engineering team has an excellent opportunity in Syracuse, NY for a self-directed and results-oriented engineering manager to lead the development of the next generation HVAC&R compressors. This position has high visibility and significant contributions to the success of Carrier products. Basic Function: Manage and mentor development engineers and designers. Lead the team to deliver next generation compressors and new products using the latest technology, engineering tools and compressor design experience. Ensure compressor projects are completed on time, on spec and on budget. Work with all functions involved (system engineering, supply chain, finance, quality, compressor factories, suppliers, etc.) to ensure successful product launch. The Engineering Manager is also responsible for planning, organizing, staffing and reporting of product development activities for Reciprocating or Screw or Centrifugal compressors. In addition, the position is responsible for compressor strategy planning, technology introduction and people development. Specific Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Lead and motivate compressor development engineers and designers. 2. Provide direction and support to the team. 3. Define project scope, goals and deliverables by working with stakeholders. 4. Develop full-scale plan, including tasks, resource requirements and schedule for each project in her/his group. 5. Drive collaboration and cooperation for best use of expertise and resources globally to bring winning compressors to market in a timely manner. 6. Constantly monitor and report on progress of the projects to stakeholders. 7. Manage project changes and interventions to achieve project outputs 8. Constantly drive for better team work, engineering excellence and effectiveness BS in Mechanical Engineering is required; MS or Ph.D is a plus. A minimum of 10 years experience in design and development of Reciprocating or Screw or Centrifugal compressors, with three years or more group managing responsibilities. Strong technical, communication and leadership skills are required. Work experience in a global environment is highly desired. Position located in Syracuse, NY.
