MAJOR FUNCTION
Bright House Networks (BHN) currently seeks a Staff Engineer II for our Online Solutions Development organization. Our Web Services team occupies a unique, strategic role within BHN having a large degree of autonomy in architecting and building our Web portal, applications and B2B solutions. In addition, this group also performs pioneering work in cross- platform video services to set-top boxes, networked media appliances and mobile Web applications. The solutions developed by this group are deployed to both our residential and commercial customer base. Our team strives to work with the best people and technology possible! We are currently making transition from .Net to Java (Scala and Grails) so as a senior you will be expected to help this process by offering developers advice, training and guidance. You never know who you might bump into in the office as we are a diverse group of avid cyclists, swimmer, surfers, windsurfers, and of course the requisite gamers and hackers. Many of our Engineers speak at and/or attend local users groups, and some have written and edited for various technical publications. We enjoy Engineers who keep up with technology, particularly in the JVM and Javascript space - not to mention grails. We are currently writing Scala/Java applications intended for production, and some of our Engineers play around with technologies like Node.js, Clojure, and LiftWeb. Recently our iPad team delivered and deployed our first version of Live TV Streaming to the iPad. The Online Solutions Development team is located in Orlando and Tampa, and both offices are in parts of town that allow easy access to shopping, restaurants, and fitness facilities. JOB DESCRIPTION
Below please find a brief description of the essential duties and responsibilities required to function successfully in this position.
The person in this role will:
* Assist the transition of .Net Developers to Java by supporting and educating the individual team members.
* Design, develop and test scalable, interactive Web applications for the presentation of rich media, dynamic content, communications services, and subscriber utilities for brighthouse.com in conjunction with implementing an exciting, feature-rich, JVM-based CMS for multiple Bright House Marketing teams.
* Apply Web 2.0 technologies in architecting and implementing services which pursue the company-Ts mission of connecting people and businesses with information, entertainment and each other in ways that are simple and easy.
* Support the migration to a unified technology platform based on JVM and Javascript technologies.
* Monitor industry trends and advocate for Web development best-practices to maintain and enhance the product-Ts leadership position in the industry.
* Demonstrate willingness to adapt to emerging technological changes.
* Demonstrate a high standard of work ethics.
* Work and communicate with others in a team environment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
* This role requires up to 10% travel.Required Skills
* Demonstrated expertise in implementing and consuming RESTful Web Services.
* Demonstrated experience with serer side technologies such as JSP.
* Demonstrated experience with modern languages such as Scala, Grails, Clojure, and CoffeeScript.
* Experience with testing frameworks such as TestNG, Spock, ScalaTest, Jasmine, and PhantomJS.
* Experience with HTML 5 development of Mobile Devices.
* Experience with modern Javascript frameworks such as JQuery, JQuery Mobile, ExtJS, and Sencha Touch.
* Experience with distributed NoSQL solutions such as the Java Content Repository.
* Demonstrated experience with User interface Design and Usability.
* Demonstrated experience with Web analytics.
* Experience with Adobe Day CQ5/CRX CMS.
* Demonstrated expertise in .Net.Required Experience
* Master-Ts degree (M.A. or M.S.) or higher: or equivalent training, education and experience.
* 7+ years of demonstrated experience with core Web technologies (HTTP, HTML 5, CSS, JSON)
* Experience with JVM based open-soure languages, tools and frameworks (such Java, Scala/Lift, Groovy/ Grails, Spring, Lucene/Solr)
* Hands on experience with core Web technologies (HTTP, HTML 5 CSS, Frameworks, Caching).
* Demonstrate expertise in applying client-side (HTML 5, CSS, Javascript, Flash) and/or server-side (JVM based languages and web frameworks, RESTful Web Services, content management systems) Web technologies.
* Demonstrate experience with high volume, long-life projects, balancing feature velocity, long-term maintenance costs, and operational effort.
* Expertise developing dynamic Web applications at scale (>1M+ monthly unique visitors).
* Experience with Agile/ Scrum, Test-Driven-Development and Continuous-Integration methods.
* Proficiency in core Javascript.
