Facility Description:

The facility is a newly formed multi-specialty ambulatory surgery center expected to open in July 2018. It is located on the campus of Tucson Medical Center. The center will focus predominantly on outpatient orthopedic and spine surgery, with some urological procedures and general surgeries as well. At its peak, it is expected to facilitate several thousand surgeries per year, utilizing four operating rooms. The center is a partnership between physicians, Tucson Medical Center, and SCA.

Accountabilities / Responsibilities

To support the facility by greeting patients/visitors, maintaining appearance of the lobby, answering switchboard, and acting as a resource for facility. Registers patients on the day of surgery and performs other medical office functions. The Admitter will function within the Center's policies and procedures, support SCA Values, SCA Vision and SCA Mission.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Admits patients and gathers information and forms related to their procedure.

+ Greets and directs visitors to the correct departments.

+ Maintains clean and tidy waiting room/lobby area.

+ Manages office and food supply ordering for facility.

+ Answers all incoming calls to the facility. Relay information in accurate, concise manner .

+ Maintains patient privacy per HIPAA regulations.

+ Prepares charts for next day cases, ensuring medical records from previous visit are retrieved.

+ Runs patient identification labels, affix a label to each page of the patient chart and a patient identification bracelet.


+ High school diploma or equivalent

+ three - five years' experience in a medical office, hospital, outpatient surgery center or related field

+ Computer experience, Excel, Word, Medical Billing Software and Applications

+ Working knowledge of Medical Terminology.

+ Skills and Abilities

+ Possess basic knowledge of medical terminology.

+ Knowledge of insurance lines of business, and standard coordination of benefits methodology.

+ Typing or keyboarding skills.

+ Knowledge of office machines (i.e. computer, scanner, fax, copier, multi-line phone system with voicemail, etc.).

+ Knowledgable of HIPPA guidelines, Red Flag Rules, and Medicare Conditions of Coverage requirements

+ Versatile and willing to coordinate with and participate in, when necessary, all other aspects of the Business Office.

+ Possess strong initiative to get daily work finished and processed.

+ Is courteous, understanding and sympathetic toward patients, physicians and others.

+ Maintains regular attendance.

+ Ability to handle confidential information.

+ Ability to set priorities and work independently.

+ Warm, friendly personality with a commitment to treat patients with compassion and respect.

+ Ability to interact in a positive manner and to communicate well with patients, families, co-workers, physicians, supervisor and other facility teammates.

+ Ability to handle multiple tasks.

+ Ability to use discretion in dealing with the public.
