### Summary
This Advanced Medical Support position is for the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System main facility, Tucson, AZ or any outlying Community Based Outpatient Clinic.
**Open Continuous Announcement:** This is an open continuous announcement which will establish an inventory of applicants interested in a career as an Advanced Medical Support Assistant within the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS). This applicant inventory will be used to fill GS-06 positions on a Full Time basis as they occur. Applications on file as of Close of Business 05/01/2018 will be reviewed for referral and will receive consideration. Applications received after that date will be considered for subsequent vacancies. The positions can be located at the main SAVAHCS facility or outlying Community Based Outpatient Clinics.
**Work Schedule:** Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

### Responsibilities
* Perform receptionist duties, customer service for the proper and timely treatment of patients.
* Maintain appointment schedules for one or more outpatient clinics.
* Assist with clinic access contingency plans by adjusting appointment times, location, or dates as well as shift patients to other healthcare providers as conflict with staffing and/or coverage occurs.
* Screen and receive phone calls in a courteous and timely manner, determine the nature of requests and provide the information desired using privacy rules and established clinic processes.
* Explain procedures to Veterans and their family members bother in person and on the phone.
* Independently manage position responsibilities with little supervision as well as set priorities and deadlines.
* Coordinates administrative services for Veterans, family members, caregivers, and general public.
* Ensures all medical records received are integrated into Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) by sending records to the scanning department.
* Develops and maintains effective working relationship with all clinical and administrative staff.
* Generates patient workload reports for validation and monitors activity in clinical areas to assure consistent and accurate reporting.
* Organizes and implements quality assurance monitors.
* Interprets and communicates requirements of VHA scheduling directives and completes accurate scheduling.

### Qualifications
**Basic Requirements:
U.S. citizenship.**You must be a United States Citizen to be considered. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.** AND
Proficient in spoken and written English** . Note: To be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C., Chapter 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity in Veterans Health Administration (VHA), applicants must be proficient in written and spoken English.** AND
Experience/Education:**Six months experience of clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position. OR One year of higher education above high school. (copy of transcript required) OR Equivalent combination of clerical, office or other work experience and education above the high school level.
AND
Grade Determination GS-06:**Including meeting the above basic requirements above you must also have One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-05, but is not limited to: Interpreting and verifying provider orders, scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling patient's appointments and/or consults; performing basic eligibility, co-pays, and pre authorization requirements for specific coverage.
Preferred experience would be working within a hospital, medical clinic/office performing similar duties as a Medical Support Assistant.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-06. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS-06.
**Physical Requirements:**Moderate lifting, 15-44 pounds, Moderate carrying, 15-44 pounds, pushing 1-2 hours, Reaching above shoulder, Use of fingers, Standing 1-2 hours, Good distant vision in one eye and ability to read without strain, and OU vision 20/50. Ability to hear the whispered voice with or without hearing aid. Emotional and Mental Stability.
