Facility Description:

The facility is a newly formed multi-specialty ambulatory surgery center expected to open in July 2018. It is located on the campus of Tucson Medical Center. The center will focus predominantly on outpatient orthopedic and spine surgery, with some urological procedures and general surgeries as well. At its peak, it is expected to facilitate several thousand surgeries per year, utilizing four operating rooms. The center is a partnership between physicians, Tucson Medical Center, and SCA.

Accountabilities / Responsibilities

As Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs), our primary product is operating room time. The Physician Office Liaison (POL) manages this constrained resource and is expected to proactively fill the schedule with profitable procedures. The POL is the key point of contact with our physician offices and their relationships help ensure the success of our centers.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Be an active member of the center's growth team in developing and maintaining an effective marketing program that encompasses physicians, patients, medical groups, and third party payers.

+ Market the center and develop relationships with physician offices.

+ Obtain and accurately enter patient data from physician offices at time of scheduling.

+ Perform a cost analysis for new procedures identified by the clinical team.

+ Manage block time to ensure efficient utilization.

+ Coordinates with anesthesia group to confirm scheduling for coverage.

+ Works closely with Clinical Director to avoid equipment or supply conflicts.

+ Ensures all necessary paper work for any patient" add- on" is received by appropriate staff.

+ Communicates changes to schedule to appropriate staff.

+ Accurately uses procedure codes to ensure proper billing.

+ Validates physician credentials at time of case booking to ensure license, insurance DEA and privileges are current.

+ Maintains copy of medical staff Delineation of Privileges to determine appropriateness of scheduled procedure.

+ Distributes schedules to appropriate areas.


+ + High school diploma or equivalent

+ Associate's Degree or equivalent from a two-year College or technical school preferred

+ three - five years' experience in a medical office, hospital, outpatient surgery center or related field

+ Computer experience, Excel, Word, Medical Billing Software and Applications

+ Working knowledge of Medical Terminology.

+ Skills and Abilities

+ Ability to prioritize and work independently.

+ Ability to provide direction to others that is clear, concise and promotes efficiency throughout the center.

+ Knowledge of CPT 4 and ICD 9 codes.

+ Has thorough knowledge of ASC allowable procedures.

+ Demonstrates knowledge of insurance lines of business.

+ Strong knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.

+ Have the ability to evaluate problematic situations and multiple alternative scenarios and come to independent conclusions on how to respond appropriately.

+ Have ability to communicate effectively with patient, payors, physicians, and other teammates.

+ Possess knowledge of typing, word processing, spreadsheet and computer billing systems.
