ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Chief Conservation and External Affairs Officer functions as the NY State conservation strategist to create and implement a conservation vision for The Nature Conservancy in New York that drives the Conservancy s conservation work for all of NY State (including the local chapters and programs). S/he represents the Conservancy s interests at the state level in conservation, public funding, public land management and natural resource policy to key state and federal agencies, and supervises staff that represents the Conservancy s interests before these entities. S/he is accountable for The Nature Conservancy in New York s success in implementing the Conservancy s conservation approach state-wide, as well as NY s support of the regional conservation efforts, including large landscape "Whole Systems" such as the Northern Appalachians, Great Lakes and Delaware River, producing measurable conservation results and maintaining organizational values while managing long-term conservation goals in coordination with Operations, Marketing and Philanthropy. S/he manages, supervises and supports Chapter Directors and statewide leadership staff in Government Relations and Conservation Science as Conservancy and NY leaders.
In collaboration with Philanthropy leadership, support Chapter Directors in strengthening board leadership and engaging board members strategically across NY State. Oversee NY State External Affairs, including Government Relations, Corporate Relations and NGO partnerships. Raise public and private resources for NY State Priorities, in coordination with NY philanthropy. Represent the Conservancy with NY State and appropriate local elected officials, focused on Albany. Represent TNC at NY State level forums. Lead and manage the NY Senior Staff Team (Chapter Directors, Natural Heritage Program Director, Government Relations Director, NYC Program Director and Conservation Science Director and with the participation of the NY Executive Team, which includes the NY Executive Director, Chief Philanthropy Officer, Director of Operations & Finance and Senior Marketing Director).
The Chief Conservation and External Affairs Officer works in collaboration with fundraising, operations & finance and marketing teams of the New York Operating Unit. He/she supports philanthropy andexternal affairs staff in the cultivation and direct solicitation of donors (private and public) to meet fundraising goals.
The staff comprising the various New York Operating Unit functions may be structured as needed or shared with other units as efficiency dictates to meet the needs of the unit. The Chief Conservation and External Affairs Officer reports to the Executive Director of NY and works closely with the Conservation Committee of the New York State Board as well as local Chapter trustees/boards.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor s degree and minimum of 7 years of experience as a leader in the conservation arena, non-profit sector, advocacy, or related for-profit area.
* Management experience in leading and managing a large multi-disciplinary team.
* Written and verbal fluency in English.
* Experience communicating with and presenting to diverse audiences including donors, board members, employees, outside partners, or equivalent.
* Experience in fundraising and budget management.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor s degree and minimum of 7-10 years experience as a proven leader in the conservation arena, non-profit sector, advocacy, or related for-profit area, including demonstrated experience producing results and meeting program/department goals.
* Expert knowledge of current and evolving political, legislative and conservation trends on a federal and/or multi-state level.
* Experience gained both in and outside the U.S. preferred. Demonstrated commitment to developing and practicing global literacy a must.
* Extensive management experience including ability to motivate, lead, set objectives, and manage performance of a large multi-disciplinary team.
* Demonstrated success as an inspirational leader who has successfully motivated staff to achieve and sustain excellence. Proven managerial talent in budgeting, staffing, and performance management.
* High energy, forward thinking, creative individual with high ethical standards. Outstanding leadership and visionary qualities and able to work effectively with and through others in a decentralized and geographically dispersed organization.
* Proven technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, and strong operational focus. Demonstrated operational, implementation and detail-oriented perspective.
* Well organized and self-directed; politically savvy and a team player.
* Successful experience in marketing or fund raising desired.
* Fluency in the predominant language of the operating unit strongly desired or required. Written and verbal fluency in English required.
ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION
* Willingness and ability to travel routinely throughout the operating unit and elsewhere as required.
* Flexibility to work long hours during deadline periods.
* Work requires only minor physical exertion and/or physical strain. Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Ecological Restoration Crew Member will help implement invasive species management projects within the biologically rich and ecologically important eastern Lake Ontario and Tug Hill region. Successful candidates will serve in an early detection/rapid response field capacity, inventory and map the presence of terrestrial and aquatic invasive plant species and where appropriate implement control techniques to prevent their further establishment and spread. These positions will work closely with other TNC staff, regional partners and contractors to accomplish project tasks.
This position will require a commitment of at least 35 hours per week from June through September with occasional work on weekends.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Ecological Restoration Crew Members will participate in biological monitoring, invasive species identification, mapping and control. This may include one or more of the following functions:
* Use GPS technology for tracking species locations and control activities
* Conducts plant, animal and insect monitoring.
* Ensures consistent and quality ecological data collection and management.
* Physical removal of exotic species and/or conducts species monitoring.
* Maintains tools and equipment
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
* High school diploma and at least one year s training in science-related field or related experience in land management
* Experience in recognizing New York flora and fauna
* Experience operating various types of equipment (ATV, 4-wheel drive truck, canoe)
* Experience performing physical work.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* High school diploma and 1-2 years training in science-related field or related experience in land management.
* Ability to swim.
* Familiar with ecosystem restoration, invasive species control and herbicide control techniques preferred.
* Ability to recognize plant species as required after field training to complete control activities.
* Ability to operate various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g.; lawn mower, ATV, two-way radio, portable hand and back-pack sprayers)
* Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision.
* Ability to perform physical work, sometimes under adverse conditions or in inclement weather
* Working knowledge of GPS technology and basic computer skills.
* Reliable transportation to get to job sites
* Ability to help plan and direct work groups, including other staff or volunteers
ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION
* This is a full-time, temporary position that begins in June 2012 and ends in September 2012.
* Housing is provided.
AUTO SAFETY POLICY
This position requires a valid driver s license and compliance with the Conservancy s Auto Safety Program. Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered "high risk drivers." WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT
The Ecological Restoration Crew Member may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances. These conditions may:
* require considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain
* present frequent possibility of injury
* require long hours in isolated settings
* working in areas where insects are common.

Overview:
To assist participants with Activities of Daily Living by providing direct personal care and homemaker services to participants at home and at the Center.
Responsibilities:

Promote optimal health by assisting in the development, provision and revision of a participants Plan of Care.

Assist with meals by serving and feeding participants and cleaning up after meal completion.
*
Monitor participants health by noting changes in physical or emotional health and communicating this information to the Community Health Nurse and the Interdisciplinary Team.

Follow Plan of Care by recording, monitoring and assisting (retrieving and opening container only) the participant with self-administered medications.
*
Maintain a clean environment by assisting in keeping the showers, bathrooms, kitchen and activity areas at the Center clean and orderly.
*
Promote independence by assisting with ROM exercises, re-learning basic household skills, ambulation, transfer and range of motion needs of participants as determined by physical and/or occupational therapists.
*
Provides services to participants by assisting with activities of daily living.
*
Promote activity programming by going on recreational outings and setting up equipment and leading games, singing, discussion and other activities at the Center.

Assist with the overall operation of Independent Living Services by opening and closing the Center as needed.

Follow Plan of Care by providing any of the following as instructed by nursing.
Qualifications:

Valid New York State Drivers License and dependable personal transportation to travel within Onondaga County.

High school diploma or equivalent
*
Current certification as a Home Health Aide or willingness to become certified.
*
Capable of approval by NYS DOH CHRC and Homecare Registry.
*
Prefer one to two years prior experience as a homemaker, PCA or HHA , working with an elderly population.

Ability to flex between work settings (home and/or Day Center)

Ability to read, write and speak the English language
*
