We are currently seeking aJava/J2EE Developerfor a permanent opportunity based out of our Vancouver, BC offices Start date(s): Fall 2012 DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The Java Developer, under the supervision of the Development Team Lead is responsible for supporting a critical application portfolio of Java applications. Responsibilities include, but not limited to: * Providing application maintenance and development & operational support including day-to-day operations, monitoring and problem resolution * Comunicating with business users, IT stakeholders and 3rdparty vendors * Developing and supporting extensions to the capabilities of the application(s), producing reports using system provided tools, and customizing and configuring the COTS applications * Repairing and recovering from hardware or software failures, coordinating and communicating with impacted parties * Performing daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups * Applying maintenance patches and upgrades on a regular basis, upgrading administrative tools and utilities, and configure / adding new services as necessary * Provide 24x7 on call support as required MUST-HAVES: * 5-7 years of experience in Java development on Windows or Unix * 5 years of J2EE experience on WebLogic or similar application server * 3 years of EJB experience * Demonstrated work experience with application maintenace and support * Excellent communication skills. * Positive, flexible, open-minded approach towards work assignments * Good interpersonal skills with a natural ability to work with and support colleagues, ability to adapt to and work effectively with clients and co-workers with different styles and levels of technical knowledge * Must be able to work in a team environment, as well as independently with minimal supervision and work well under pressure * Good analytical, troubleshooting, debugging skills and proven ability to discern critical from minor problems. * Ability to prioritize, manage, and handle multiple tasks at one time NICE-TO-HAVES: * Experience with JADE (Java Agent Development) Framework. * Experience with Oracle on AIX or any other version of Unix. * Knowledge of application integrations via WebServices, RPC or ESB will be an asset. * Experience with VB6, VBA, C, or C is nice to have * Knowledge of Oracle Forms or Informatica Enteprise Data Integration is nice to have * Demonstrated ability to work in teams with specific performance targets * Application development and support experience within a publicly or privately-held utilities organization. * ITIL v3 Foundation Certification * Experience with formal methodologies, preferably with Fujitsu's Macroscope Methodology, for Application Management and System Development.
